Why does Kavanna House charge fees and tuition for its programs and services?
Kavanna House is a small non-profit organization. Unlike churches who build their budgets through weekly tithes and offerings, and often have established endowments and/or building funds, Kavanna House relies on its fees and tuitions to fund our daily operations. This includes all costs associated with courses such as supplies and modest facilitator salaries, utilities and maintenance for the house and property, small salaries for four part time staff and scholarship funds.
Where did the name The Intimacy Project come from?
When Kavanna House made the decision in 2015 to begin offering its weekly spiritual practices class through a nine month cohort model, we began to discern what name could best describe our desire for the program. Through the cohort model which includes five two-day retreats, our desire is that participants have the time and space to deepen their relationship with God - making it more personal and intimate. We also wanted the name to reflect that we believe that we are indeed spiritual beings on a human journey, a journey that in essence is a project without end.
Why is The Intimacy Project a pre-requisite for so many of Kavanna's programs?
We consider The Intimacy Project to be the foundation of Kavanna House. It is intended for those who are mature in their faith but are finding their current ways of interacting with God lacking and no longer satisfying. It is designed to move what one knows intellectually about God into a felt experience of God. It provides a framework that encourages the process of transformation rather than the gathering of more information. In addition, it grounds individuals in the group process we use throughout all of Kavanna's courses.
How do I know if I'm 'ready' for Kavanna's programs?
Kavanna's programs and services are intended for those who seeking more from their relationship with God and for those who are questioning their relationship with God. Our programs are not intended those who have recently become Christ followers but instead for those who desire a space and place to freely ask questions and share their thoughts about God in their lives. Many of those who are drawn to Kavanna House have been longtime church attendees but for whatever reason now find themselves disillusioned with church.
