Engaging the Paschal Mystery Retreat

Saturday, March 6, 2021 ~ 9 am - 5 pm

~How do you experience the Paschal Mystery in your everyday life?

~Are you aware of its presence in your life in a real way, and not just something you know about or reflect upon during the seasons of Lent and Easter?

~The Paschal Mystery is ultimately the process of dying and rising, and it happens constantly in our lives.

This day-long intensive online retreat will provide time for you to look at your life through the lens of the Paschal Mystery–- Good Friday, Easter, the 40 Days, Ascension and Pentecost.  Through teaching, self-reflection and group processing, you will discover how to live fully in the reality of where you find yourself in this present moment.

This facilitated group retreat is open to a maximum of six persons. The day is comprised of a repeated rhythm of brief presentations via Zoom, private reflection time (on your own, off Zoom) and a return to our Zoom call for group processing.

"The Paschal Mystery Retreat was a powerful experience for me on several levels. It provided a new way of reflecting on my own life journey and noting the rhythms of death, resurrection, Pentecost and ascension. As a retired pastor, I loved the theological paradigm that guided us to reflect on the life of Christ and notice parallels in our own spiritual journeys. I came away from this day strengthened and empowered to more fully embrace the richness of the Paschal Mystery and all that it holds for this season of my life." ~ Doris Barr

Prepare for this ONLINE retreat by ...

  • Choosing and preparing a space to spend the day: Ideally it will be quiet and comfortable, with splashes of beauty and perhaps some chocolate or other special treats.
  • Communicating with others in your household: Clearly and graciously, let other household members know what space you will be using during the retreat. Explain how very grateful you will be to them for respecting your retreat time by not interrupting you!
  • Gathering your materials: You will want your journal (or something to write on if you don't have a journal) and any documents sent to you prior to the retreat.
  • Preparing for our Zoom calls: Set up your laptop or tablet in a place where it can remain plugged in for the duration of the call so that you don't get disconnected due to a dead battery. Adjust your device so approximately one-third of your upper torso and your head show on the screen. When the camera is further away, it is difficult to see your facial expressions and when it is closer, it is challenging to see your body language. Choose a spot where light from a window or lamp shines on your face. Avoid having your device's camera pointed toward a strong source of light; your face will be darkened and others will have a harder time seeing you. If you have never been on a Zoom call before, please download the free necessary software at https://zoom.us/download sometime before retreat day. You will receive a link to join the group Zoom call about an hour before the retreat begins.
