Opportunities to Serve

Many people have asked how they can support our growth.  With that in mind, there are some immediate and longterm volunteer needs which are outlined below.  You are invited to review these needs and consider if you might be able and willing to lend a hand (or two).

What is it about Kavanna House that resonates with you?

What gifts do you have that God might be calling you to share with Kavanna?

Please share your thoughts with us.  Contact Adele Seebold to discuss these opportunities.

Cohort and Retreat Hostess/Host

Kavanna House is active on 20-25 weekends throughout the year with two-day cohorts and one day retreats for various classes as well as for Sustainable Faith’s spiritual director training cohorts which are held at Kavanna House.  An invaluable support for these cohorts is a hospitality volunteer on-site from approximately 8 am – 1 pm on each cohort day.  The primary duties are: to keep the coffee, hot water and snacks replenished; and, to set up and clean up the continental breakfast and lunch.  This service allows the instructors to be fully focused on the class.  In between any of these tasks, the volunteer can enjoy any of the books from our library, journal, color, etc.  If this opportunity appeals to you and you’d be willing to commit to a day (or more), please click here to sign up or email Kristin Peterman with  your availability.

House Staffing Support

Do you enjoy a slower pace and an opportunity to talk to someone one on one? Are you comfortable in a quiet environment?

Perhaps you would enjoy ‘staffing’ Kavanna House on a regular basis – weekly, bi-weekly or as needed.  A volunteer would be a welcoming face and smile for anyone walking in and a friendly voice for those calling.  It is our desire to have a group of volunteers who provide regular staffing support each week but there are also occasions when we will need additional help for longer periods of time during a particular day. This usually occurs when Kavanna House is hosting retreat guests on a day when we're not typically open AND when staff are busy with appointments, teaching and/or out of the York area. A volunteer may be able to help with some light administrative duties but would also very likely have ample time for reading and reflection.
